Born in Barcelona to Artistic parents--her father is Spanish and
her mother, Filipina--Valeria took up textile design in that
Catalan City's Escuela de Diseņo Textil. She credits that
school, which "fosters creativity" through its faculty
of scientists, artists and philosophers with motivating her
"to look at certain things" and, ultimately encouraging
her to be a painter.
In the late 1970's, she came to the Philippines in search of her
roots and chose to make Manila her home.
