Celebrating a career that span 43 years of poring over the world’s expensive gemstones and metals---tremendously exciting, glittering mysteries of the Earth’s crust, tremors, ambience and ages, Hans Brumann holds a unique fair of irresistible eye grabbers forged by his passion for design and sculpting at the Podium, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City on December 5 to 9, 2006.

In this show, “Velvet Moon,” Brumann swings into a frolicking mood. The priceless jewel of the sea---the pearl---departs from the serene and mysterious luster which has enshrouded its beauty and legend. Brumann grants it a friendly look and feel, a romantic dash speckled with diamonds, sapphires, garnets, tourmalines, and the Philippine’s kamagong

Brumann shows off his fancies for the favorite icons of children: dogs, kittens, dolphins, ducks and roosters. He even details the grown-up kid’s interest in jesters, marionettes, and Disneyland popular characters: Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and Pinocchio. He records too his own generation’s idols, America’s “royalty” Jackie O and Hollywood legend Fred Astaire. Finally, Brumann wreathes the symbols of teen-age love in the images of rainbows, flower, sprays, and bunches of balloons. His playfulness hangs on his pendants and tips on his collar pins and brooches.

Definitely his creations offer a tease to the eyes and the heart. Like a jolly Casper the Ghost, Brumann shows off a derring in re-inventing the dictum of his gemstones and transforming them into smart and playful graphic accessories to today’s eclectic fashion wear. The designs effuse a combination of instant curiosity and exhilarating recognition, two ingredients that will make them conversation pieces for a long while.

Brumann pushes the mood from the street and wear into the enclaves of the senior prom nights and debutante balls. His single-strand necklaces and choker---all in white gold setting---will broaden the flashes of blushing smiles and simmering looks of their owners. The escort himself will become Prince Charming with Brumann‘s pins and rings.

The present collection of Hans Brumann is one that remembers today’s new axiom that calls for the return to the basics, and a return to nature. Brumann chose to look at the child and the romantic soul in him. He chose to be organic with his materials in a world that is grid with petroleum and resin. For replying to all these calls, Brumann remains a compleat artist.
